Fool's Day

Fool's Day, but it is a festival in its own right, an extraordinary day celebrated in many countries on 1 April. The date is determined by the commission of fraud and other jokes of varying complexity marked on family, friends, enemies, neighbors, or sending them on fools roads, whose goal is to bring shame gullible. Traditionally, in some countries, the jokes only until noon, someone playing a trick on the evening is called “April Fool”. other sources is that April 1 was one, was the first day of the year in France. When King Charles IX changed from 1 January experienced some people still April 1. Those who are not as “April Fools” and were ridiculed by their neighbors.

Each one, as the search for the origin and the date is celebrated today remains disturbing many. The origin of April Fools Day “is unclear. A likely theory is that the modern complex, first held shortly after the introduction of the Gregorian calendar, the term refers to someone who still adheres to the Julian calendar, which replaced .) In many pre-Christian cultures May (May 1 was held on the first day of summer and marks the beginning of the planting season. An April Fool was someone who not before time.

almost all cultures in the world has had a kind of celebration in the early months of the year until the end of winter and the return of spring. Anthropologists call this festival “renewal.” often involved ritual forms of chaos and misrule. The use of masks is widespread. People play jokes on friends and strangers.

Fool's Day has all the hallmarks of a festival of renewal. For one day forms of behavior that are generally not allowed ( lying, cheating and playing jokes) has become socially acceptable, however, the disorder is limited to a strict timetable. Traditionally, no tricks to be played at 12 noon on the clock. hierarchies and social tensions are exposed, but the hostility defused by laughter.

While people have been speculations on April Fool's joke, they have noticed the similarities between him and other spring “renewal” of the festival. Many historians have theorized that the Day of the Innocents directly from some festivals like the old practices developed. A direct connection between the April Fool's Day, and a Roman festival is unlikely, but it is very possible that the tradition evolved from a medieval festival at the time of spring equinox retained (as the festival “in late March the New Year, as described above). However, no agreement on the tradition of April Foolery festival was developed. Below is A list of some of the festivals, the most frequently proposed as his predecessor. can

references in Fool's joke and in 1500. However, these early warnings were scarce and rather vague and ambiguous. It have been many theories about how the tradition began. Unfortunately, not very convincing. So the origin of “April Fools habit theory” is still much a mystery to us as it was in 1708.

The most popular about the origin of April Fool's Day French timetable for reforming the sixteenth century. The theory is:

French timetable for reform

1564 France reformed its schedule, moving the start of the season late March to January 1. Those who can not keep pace with change, who clung tenaciously to the old calendar system and began the new year in the week took place between 25 March and 1 April, it was held had played jokes on them. Pranksters surreptitiously stick paper fish on the back. The victims of this prank were so called Poisson d'Avril or April Fish, which remains to this day the French term for April Fools, and thus was born the tradition.

The calendar change hypothesis seems on the surface like a logical explanation for the origin of April Fools. However, the hypothesis is less plausible if we consider the history of Check the calendar reform in detail.

The Julian calendar

The Julian calendar established by Julius Caesar in 46 BC, and January 1 the first day of the year. But as Christianity spread in Europe, efforts have been made in the calendar for the Day New Year, to convert the data most important theological as Christmas and Easter to Christianity with its use. In some countries, on January 1, justifying this as the day of the circumcision of Christ. As a result, was from 1500 European calendar system a disaster. It is a mistake, only in the Julian calendar caused the solar system had different year in the calendar, but countries were at the beginning of the year on different dates.

French is also used as the Holy Week start of the year, mainly for legal and administrative. Jan. 1, according to Roman custom was widely regarded as the traditional start of the year and was the day when people exchange gifts.

sixteenth century, reform “/p> The practice of starting the year on Easter Sunday, enormous practical disadvantages caused to so many people in France in 1500 began using January 1 as the beginning of the calendar year. For example, early in the sixteenth-century French books, which is common to see both types of dating are listed side by side (title in January, February or March, unpublished). was in the middle of the sixteenth century a calendar system from 1 January in wide use in France. In 1563, King Charles IX ordered January 1 is the first day of the year, the alignment with legal conventions, has become what was the popular practice. The decree was signed into law by the French Parliament on December 22, 1564.

Eighteen years later, in 1582 Pope Gregory issued a papal bull to enact radical reform agenda . The Gregorian reform included moving the start of the year until Jan. 1, and the creation of a leap year and the elimination of ten days from October 1582 to correct the drift of the calendar. The pope did not has formal power to governments to accept these reforms, but urged the Christian nations to do so. France immediately accepted the reform, although earlier this year changed 1564th (many stories about April Fool's Day erroneously suggest that France took only beginning of the year 1582, if one accepts the Gregorian calendar reform in its entirety.)

With this history in mind, clearly, that the calendar change hypothesis is an explanation for the origin of a problem joke April Fool's. The transition on 1 January will not suddenly appear in France. It was a gradual process that spans an entire century. And even before the change, the French had no obvious Connect new year on April 1.

British Calendar Change

The calendar change hypothesis is plausible when applied to the UK because it was the British, not French, “observed the New Year's Day on March 25 (the day of the Christian festival) the proclamation, followed by a festival which ends on April 1. In fact, the first version of the calendar change hypothesis are in print in 1766, is the argument of a Briton to provide context. As a correspondent the Gentleman's Magazine reported in April 1766:

“The strange custom in this kingdom, man has mocked them in the first of April, the result of years start earlier, certainly purpose, and in some extent, the twenty-fifth day of March, is the incarnation of the Lord, it is customary for the Romans, and so we can make a festival, accompanied by an octave in the beginning of new year celebration lasted for eight days, which were the first and last, most important, which is the first of April is the eighth of the twenty-fifth of March, and with it the end or the end of the festival, which was the Feast of the Annunciation and the beginning of new year .

United Kingdom only changed the start of its calendar year until January 1, 1752nd At this time, April Fool's Day was already an established tradition. Thus, the confusion about the schedule change would not be responsible for the origin of the practice in Britain. But it is possible, as correspondent of the Gentleman's magazine speculates that the festival will be held on April 1, the “Eighth” March 25 (calendar year) Change in the April Fool's Day is. speculation, however, this is pure, by the absence of other evidence that the practice originated in Britain undermined. The first evidence of an April Fools joke actually come from continental Europe, suggesting it is April Fool's Day began.

UK

British Folk Fool's Day links the city of Gotham, the legendary city of fools is in Nottinghamshire. According to legend, the 13th century it was traditional in all roads leading to the foot of king in public. Thus, if the citizens of Gotham heard that King John planned to travel through their village, which was refused entry to not lose their main road. When the king heard this, he sent troops into the city . But when the soldiers arrived in Gotham, found the town full of fools in silly activities like fish or trying to drown the birds in cages on billboards homeless in question. Your Posse was an act, but the king fell into the trap and declared the town too foolish to warrant punishment. Since then, he had the tradition of April Fool's Day not to commit their frauds.

Germany

On April 1, 1530 was adopted by a meeting of legislators was to examine the case in Augsburg for a variety of financial matters. For the considerations are for the meeting has been held. But there are many speculators who had bet on the meeting lost its money and jeered. This is the origin of the tradition of playing pranks on April 1.

The Netherlands

on April 1, 1572 the rebels captured the Dutch town of Den Briel by Spanish troops under the leadership of Mr. Alva. This military success has led, ultimately, the independence of the Netherlands from Spain. A Dutch rhyme says, “1st Op April /Alva zijn Verloor Bril.” This leads us to: “On April 1 /Alva lost his” glasses ” . Bril “means glasses in Dutch, but also is an allusion to the name of the city, Den Briel. It is claimed that the tradition of jokes from 1 April rose to victory in Den Briel and humiliation of the Spanish commander

Chaucer

What is possibly the first reference to mark the April Fool 's Day is in the works of Chaucer. Unfortunately, the reference is so ambiguous that are worthless as historical evidence.

The Nun's Priest's Tale (c. 1392) tells the story of Chaucer, the vain rooster Chauntecler, which is for cases of tricks Fox, and as a result, almost eaten. All you have meant Chaucer can not be determined on the basis of these few lines played in a practice on 1 April was known jokes.

Eloy d'Amerval

The following reference to one April Fool's joke, we could find is 1508 in a poem by Eloy d'Amerval, a conductor and composer French. The poem is titled Le livre of deablerie. In this poem, he did use the phrase “Poisson d'Avril” (April fish) is the French term for a joke of the April Fool's Day, but it is unclear whether D'Amerval's use of the term refers to 1 April special. The phrase might mean only a foolish person intends to have.

Eduard de Dene

Flemish writer Eduard de Dene published a comic poem in 1539 about a nobleman who submit a plan to hatch his servant and his absurd errands on 1 April, apparently to assist in the preparation of a wedding. The employee acknowledges that what is happening to him a 1 Day of the Innocents

Escape of the Duke of Lorraine

According to legend, were the Duke of Lorraine and his wife in the prison of Nantes. They fled a 1 Abril dress 1632 by farmers and walk through the front door. Someone said that he escaped and told the guard. But the guards thought the warning was “Poisson d'Avril” (or April Fool's Day joke), and laughed so that the duke and his wife to escape. It is not known whether any part of this legend is true. In the eighteenth century, written references to April Fool's joke were numerous and occurred throughout Europe.

Endlich, what we have here is a pretty good indication of a user to play jokes on 1 April. So we can say that the April Fool's Day goes back at least to the sixteenth century. From this reference (and the other, vague reference to the French), historians believe the April Fool's Day, in continental Europe, Northern Europe have their origin and then have spread to England.

The deception of the innocent is full, humor, laughter and fun. The frequency of Hoaxes April Fools' sometimes makes people doubt real news. Here are some of the real message of April 1, man as a hoax.

The April 1, 1946 Aleutian earthquake tsunami on the island of 165 people died in Hawaii and Alaska to establish an early warning system against tsunamis established in 1949 for countries in the Pacific Ocean. The tsunami in question is drowning in Hawaii as “tsunami April Fools 'Day” by humans, because the assumptions that the warnings were trick of April Fools' known. The death of King George II of Greece on 1 April 1947, when the news spread, the People took it as a joke .. On 1 April 1984, singer Marvin Gaye was shot to death by his father. By the time the Dead returned to Municipal Auditorium on November 15, 1971, they had resoundingly affirmed their interest in Americana by putting out the twin masterpieces Workingman's Dead and American Beauty (as well as the live "Skull & Roses"), but the band still had a few surprises up their sleeves, including a great young piano player, Keith Godchaux, and a cornucopia of fine new songs. The entire fall '71 tour showed the thrilling impact that Keith's arrival had on the Dead's ever-morphing sound - talk about a quick study! - and Austin, just his sixteenth show with the band, is certainly among the strongest of that era, and a worthy choice for the latest installment in the Road Trips series, presented in its entirety.

Sound quality is crisp and clean, and sonic sultan Jeffrey Norman has once again mastered the whole deal to the HDCD spec. Included, as always, is a booklet with a lively historical essay and cool period pics.

The death of King George II of Greece on 1 April 1947, when the news spread, the People took it as a joke .. On 1 April 1984, singer Marvin Gaye was shot to death by his father.
